Having seen 7 of our 2023 team come of age, new debutants were inevitable. Those who had enjoyed the double winning 2023 team had already set the standard for our 2024 team. We should have known what was to come when in the warm up match against our men's team resulting in the juniors beating them soundly.
A new home venue was selected for game 1 - Serlby Park near Bawtry set the scene perfectly and although only 12-hole course and with 4 debutants in the team, we beat our close rivals East Riding well.
Once more debutants were required for our first away game against Leeds at Darrington - a close game ended in us winning - a very commendable performance.
Our good friends Teesside joined us at Hillsborough and the result did not demonstrate the closeness of the matches with many going to the last two holes. Along with East Riding, we considered Teesside to be the strongest team we had played so were delighted when we came out winners.
Harrogate entertained us at Thirsk and North Allerton and inflicted a reality check on us by beating us by the odd point or two.
A further away game at Bradford's Calverley Golf Club, where apart from the win, was the performance of two of our debutants with handicaps of 12 and 17 beat opponents who had lower handicaps by half and our team manager lost his palate but the less said about that the better!
A week later we played host to Halifax and Huddersfield at Silkstone Golf Club. To ensure we were still in with a shout of the title we really had to win and we did!
Our final league game left us with one last chance to improve our victory margins which would ensure our nearest rival, the East Riding, would need an excellent result to overhaul us. As we had done all season, our team delivered when it mattered and won convincingly against York at the Forest of Galtres.
The following week we were declared champions for the third year running. Twenty-three individual players took part in our matches, 10 of those were debutants. I would be wrong to name individuals as this was a solid team performance. Each and every game their golfing ability was only matched by the sportsmanship and good etiquette shown to their opponents.
The management team cannot thank them enough, along with their parents or guardians, for without your support we would have no junior team.
